Joslin and Matthew’s Wedding in Iao Valley

Joslin and Matthew’s wedding took place in Maui’s Iao Valley at the Hawaiian Hale. Surrounded by nature, the sun and Iao’s misty rain, the couple was serenaded by tropical birds singing in the trees. Special gifts for guests included decorated sachet bags that were filled with Chinese “blooming flower” tea, tied with a tag and a sprig of dried lavender and rosemary. Because Matthew, who is an avid free diver, doesn’t typically wear jewelry, he collected water from the ocean while Joslin collected holy water from her home in Lebanon, and their Hawaiian officiant brought holy waters from Maui. During the ceremony, the waters were combined within a glass bowl, creating a symbolic ring for the groom. The wedding theme was a romantic expression of “Love Blooms”. They created a recipe of values that were important to them, numbering the values from one to seven, then placed each one at their reception tables. The concept was carried through to their unconventional guest book, in which they used two canvases for guests to place their fingerprints. The wedding apparel and photos lend a vintage 70s vibe to this intimate Maui union.
